ABOUT THE DUNAGIRI TEMPLE

Dunagiri Temple is a famous temple of Hindus. It is also known as Dronagiri in the Kumaon region. This Temple is situated at a distance of 15.1 kilometers from the Dwarahat, Almora district of Uttarakhand. This temple is located on the top of Drona Mountain, at an altitude of 8,000 feet(2400 Meters)  above sea level. Approximately 503 stairs lead us to the temple. The stairs are covered by many identical bells hanging all the way to the temple.

Dunagiri Mata temple is a Vaishno Shaktipeet situated in the Dwarahat region of Uttarakhand. It has a great spiritual and devotional significance. Many people visit the place to fulfill their wishes through Mata’s blessings.

The special recognition of this temple is also from many other mythological beliefs.

According to Ramayana It is believed “when Hanuman Ji was carrying the Drona Mountain with “Sanjiwani Buti” for Lakshman,  a piece of it fell on the ground and since that day this place has been known as ‘Dunagiri’.

Dunagiri is mentioned in Manas Khand of Skanda Purana. Dunagiri Mata is described as Mahamaya Haripriya. Manas Khand of Skanda Purana bestows Dunagiri with the title of Brahm-Parvat (Divine Mountain).

Dunagiri is the fourth ship of the Nilgiri-Class Stealth guided missile frigates being by “Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers for the Indian Navy”.

The Dunagiri Temple is dedicated to ‘Goddess Durga’. There is no idol in the Dunagiri temple. Naturally produced Siddha Pindis are worshiped in the form of Mata Bhagwati. Akhand Jyoti is the special feature of the temple which remains Lit 24X7 365 days a year.

Navaratri Festival at Temple

Navaratri is an annual Hindu festival observed in honour of the Goddess Durga, an aspect of Adi Parashakti, the supreme goddess. It spans over nine nights (and ten days), first in the month of Chaitra (March/April of the Gregorian calendar), and again in the month of Ashvin (September–October)

A special Navratri Puja and Celebration is held in Dunagiri Mata Temple. During these days, the temple is decorated with flowers and lights, Lot of devotees gather for Kirtan at the temple where chanting of bhakti songs makes the whole ambiance spiritual.

There is no entry fees to visit Dunagiri Temple.
The Timings to visit Dunagiri Temple are as follows:

Summer: 4:00 AM to 7:30 PM.

Aarti timings – Morning 4:00 AM and Evening 7:00 PM

Winter: 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Aarti timings – Morning 5:00 AM and Evening 6:00 PM
